I could not stand the character of Jack Thompson every since the first episode. He's a misogynistic jerk who treated Peggy like crap for being a woman in a "man's" world and belittled Sousa for using his brains to work an investigation. Now after last night's episode the audience is suppose to have empathy for him. He talked about how he earned the Navy Cross and how he regretted killing those Japanese soldiers. The Navy Cross is awarded for "extraordinary heroism in combat". In truth Thompson was alseep on duty, the Japanese soldiers SURRENDERED waving white flags, he shot them, and when people came in he hid the flags. He earned the US Navy's second highest military medal for valor under false pretenses, traded on that to help advance his career in the SSR, froze in a fire fight in Russia while being the leader of the squad; and Peggy the woman he downrated, had to pull his fanny out of the fire. And all is right now because he invited Carter out for drinks after work.

I'm sorry but I can't. Many have made sacrifices during WWII with no recognition until decades later, or never at all. This fictional character get the NC based on a cover up. Sorry, can't root for him.
