<p>I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that the scepter WAS the mind stone, so the Aether is either the Soul, Reality, or Time stone. But I was expecting something more, well, time oriented story line for the time stone, so I believe it's either Soul or Reality. </p>

The aether is most definitely the soul gem. It's the only logical choice all things considered.

<p>Quick question: Do we actually know that the creators will keep the Stones' original "aspects" from E-616? There's a good number of things that are somewhat different in MCU (usually those deemed too "pulpy" for the live-action MCU, which generally strives to be a bit more "realistic" than what is commonly tolerated in comic books)... </p><p>They could have different aspects altogether; for example, if I had to assign them names based only on the movies, I'd say the Tesseract's aspect is Energy, the purple Stone is Destruction, the Aether... here I'm a bit less sure, perhaps "Darkness"? </p><p>Those are just my ideas, it could be pretty much anything (including no fancy names at all)... assuming that it's not actually confirmed that the Stones keep their original names? </p>

<p>Ok lets use the process of elimination. </p><p>The Aether is not the space gem because that's the tesseract. It's also not the power gem because that's been confirmed to be the orb. 4 gems left, time, reality, soul and mind. Now lets take into account that when Jane Foster and Malekith had the Aether their eyes turned black. To me that sounds like something to do with the soul. Now back to elimination. It's most likely not the mind gem because the scepter is the likely candidate for that because of the way Loki was controlling minds with it and I think someone has confirmed it. Jane Foster and Malekith weren't speeding up or slowing down time when they had the Aether. Furthermore, they werent travelling through time, which eliminates the time gem. So now we're down to the reality and soul gem. </p><p>These are what each gem does according to marvel.wikia </p>

• Power Gem – Increased strength and durability, enhances virtually any known superhuman ability, energy manipulation.
• Time Gem – Time travel; stop, slow down or speed up flow of time; accelerate or slow down aging; see into past/future.
• Space Gem – Travel through space, mostly through teleportation. Able to interfere with the motion of other objects.
• Soul Gem – Observe, attack or even steal a being's soul or spirit. Also used to revert individuals to their natural state.
• Reality Gem – Alters all of reality; similar to the effects of a Cosmic Cube, but much, much higher.
• Mind Gem – Near-limitless psionic/psychic abilities including empathy, telepathy and telekinesis.

<p>Paying attention to only the soul and reality gem, the reality gem inhibits users to have powers akin to the Cosmic Cube. Jane Foster and Malekith never demonstrated powers of that style, that now eliminates the reality gem. All we're left with is the soul gem. So heres my conclusion: </p><p>The power gem is the orb (confirmed) </p><p>The time gem hasn't been revealed yet that I know of </p><p>The space gem is the tesseract (confirmed) </p><p>The soul gem is the Aether (speculation) </p><p>The reality gem hasn't been revealed yet that I know of </p><p>And the mind gem is the scepter (confirmed, I think) </p> <hr><p>I also agree with Alexj98 in the sense that, the soul gem/(possibly Aether) was with the collector on Knowhere, and Adam Warlock/Magus' cocoon was as well, which means when Adam Warlock broke out he possibly could of took it with him. </p>

<p>It has never been confirmed that the Cocoon was Warlock's, it was just a reference to him. As for the Aether, I'm a firm believer that it is the Reality Stone. The Dark Elves wanted to use it to make the universe the way it use to be, aka mostly dark matter. That isn't the natural state of the universe, technically the "natural state" of the universe is eternally transitional. Slowly changing from one state to another. As for those that argue that the Aether has showed some form of consciousness, all of the Stones have one. The Tesseract chose to open a portal for Loki/the Sceptre, no one touched it. The only other possibility that makes sense to me would be the Time Stone and they planned to reverse time back to the way things were. But there wouldn't a way to explain how Malekith used the power of time to increase his strength, energy bolts, or to grow in size. </p><p>I also speculate that the Sceptre contains the Soul Stone. In the comics the Soul gem was the first one Thanos got a hold of, wouldn't be too much of a stretch if he had gotten it off-screen in the MCU. Furthermore, when Selvig was under the Stone's influence he stated the knowledge it gave him was "truth". The Soul gem has long had an ability called the "Cold Light of Truth". Plus, if the Sceptre was using the Mind Stone why did it need to come in contact with someone to control them? Mind control doesn't require anyone to touch anything, it's all psionics. Mind also couldn't be used to fire energy bolts, Soul however has been said to be able to attack one's soul in various ways. </p>

<p>Well at least we can concur that the Aether is either the Soul gem or Reality gem. I'm assuming we'll find out in the near-future. </p>

well I have two ideas the aethers powers in thor 2 lead it closely to reality but sol does also going on 3 important facts 1 it is sentient 2 it goes into people sols 3 it was on knowhere the same place as adam warlocks cacoon but reality I have I few ideas as well 1 walking on water 2 and something about it making its own reality

<p>For point 2 for it being the Soul Stone, all of the Stones have some sort of sentience. Example, the Tesseract opened a portal for Loki/the Sceptre on its own. Also, never in any pervious depiction of the Soul Stone did it need to merge with a being to use its abilities. It got stuck on Adam Warlock's head but that because he chose to put it there, not because it had to be there to work. </p>
